"70South.com offers 'Antarcticles'- By Jeff Rubin, Polar Times
A website called 70South.com welcomes contributions from Antarcticophiles with news or
information to share about the continent. The website is updated daily. Its address is
http://www.70south.com. 70South.com is run by Brendon Grunewald of Brussels, Belgium,
who in 1992 - 94 wintered at SANAE, the South African base in Antarctica, as a physicist
studying auroras, ozone, and the Earth's magnetic field. Grunewald also visited Germany's
Georg von Neumayer station and Gough Island and has led a research expedition to Marion
Island.
"Much of the educational content of the website is contributed by other people," says
Grunewald. "Full credit is always given to any contributor, and we encourage anyone with
relevant content to contribute it."
Any extensive archive includes hundred of "Antarcticles" as Grunewald calls them (see
http://www.70south.com/news/list_all). In addition to news and messages, the website
includes a lenghty section of photos and descriptions of more than two dozen currently
operating Antarctic stations. Seven Antarctic ships are similarly profiled.<br>

"70South: The Icy-Cool Polar Information Portal - By Adam Creed, Newsbytes
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA,
11 Jan 2002, 5:46 AM CST
For the vast majority of us who have never visited Antarctica, the first point of interest on the
70South Web site is the virtual tour, providing sequenced photographs of an expedition to the
Antarctic Peninsula. But 70South also serves as a news service for more persistent residents,
with the site updated daily. Then there's the resources section with its huge wealth of information
covering Antarctic animals, bases, the region's history, maps and environment. If that's not
enough, then check out the art section with its cartoons, photographs, computer graphics, video
clips and screensavers. World Wide Web: http://www.70south.com."
10.12.2001 - Narrative Press Partners with 70South.
The Narrative Press prints only true, first-person accounts of adventures.
Some of the adventures are scientifically or historically important. Every
one is fascinating.
"There is something very special about these stories," says William Urschel,
founder of the company. "The narrator is a real person who is telling us
what he saw, did, and felt under extraordinary circumstances. If you read
thoughtfully, the narrator's origins and his biases become a second layer to
the story. For me, that creates a strong feeling of connection with these
writers, and a pleasantly odd sense of skipping across continents and
centuries."
The Narrative Press is excited to be partnering with 70South to promote such
important authors as Ernest Schackelton and John Muir. 70South is an
important resource for Antarctic news and information, they
provide great content on one of the coolest and most important subjects on
earth. We strive to do the same. If you're interested in Antarctic adventure,
please visit and revisit the 70South.com bookshop...we're always looking to
publish new or classic first-person accounts of Antarctic adventure.
