Japanese whalers are on the run

by Kris Molle last modified 2008-02-25 09:58

The anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) have caught up with the Japanese whalers again, chasing them away from the hunting grounds. The seven-vessel Japanese fleet can't catch any whales at the moment.

Another success story for the Sea Shepherd.  After a massive financial support surge, they were able to go out for the second time this season and prevent the Japanese whalers from killing more whales.

Captain Paul Watson is convinced that the Japanese will fail to meet even half their quota before having to return home by mid-March. "They're definitely not going to get their quota of 1,000 (whales) this year. I'd be surprised if they have taken more than 400 whales by the time they return home. I think they're also a bit worried about the legality of staying in Australian waters to harpoon whales, especially if they tried to detain our people or take them back to Japan."
