Japanese youth to help in whaling protest

by Kris Molle last modified 2008-03-03 01:24

Most Japanese youth is not aware that the barbaric stalking of the whales in the Southern Ocean is still going on. These are the target groups the anti-whaling campaigners want to reach.

The students of some high schools were shown a recent copy of "The Daily Telegraph" were shocked by the front-page images of a whale and her calf being dragged aboard the Japanese factory ship.

One of the students 23-year old Mami Nakawara, was also taken aback by the graphic reality of the Southern Ocean carnage. "I didn't know something so controversial was going on. This is really shocking, whales are something we should protect."

Ayaka Ikenouchi , a customer service worker said that his generation has never been exposed to the meat and don't identify with what older Japanese cite as cultural history of whale cuisine. He said "I knew that it used to be used in school lunches, but I didn't even know that we still hunted them. If it's banned and it's attracting so much criticism, then we just shouldn't do it any more."
