The giant creatures of the murkey depths
Scientists working together as part of the Collaborative East Antarctic Marine Census, have collected giant creatures, some of them never seen before, from a depth of over 2 km in Antarctic waters.
It is quite normal for creatures living that deep under the sea to grow to unusually large sizes, a phenomenon called gigantism that scientists still do not fully understand. Scientists were able to collect giant sea spiders and huge worms in the murky depths.
Graham Hosie, head of the census project said "Not all of the creatures that we found could be identified and it is very likely that some new species will be recorded as a result of these voyages."
