Rockhopper Penguin

Eudyptes Crestatus

The smallest Antarctic penguin is the rockhopper. On average he is 55 centimetres tall and he weighs 2.5 kilograms. But they are the most aggressive of all penguins. Rockhoppers can be recognized by their orange beak, the yellow eyebrows and the red eyes. The rockhopper likes to climb cliffs and to hop from rock to rock (that explains his name). Rockhoppers have the same breeding behaviour as macaroni penguins. They also incubate together. They lay two eggs, but usually only one is hatched out. When the chicks are 70 days old, they leave the colony.
